Although Hawaii legalized medicinal cannabis in 2000 and dispensaries weren’t open until 2017, social lounges fall under rules created in 2011. The Hawaiian Revised Statute 328J overwhelmingly bans any sort of public smoking, including “any other plant material” in addition to tobacco. As the new market continues to blossom in Hawaii, the issue of where to safely consume marijuana will inevitably be revisited. We can only hope social lounges are on the Hawaiian horizon soon!
