In 2021, cannabis progress is rolling forward with incredible momentum, so it’s no surprise that folks are beginning to look for more practical ways to incorporate the plant into their everyday lives. As cannabis becomes a household item, consumers have to sort out how to best store our beloved, but somewhat fragile, cannabis flower. Evergreen Pod claims to have just the thing to carry you into the next era of reform and beyond. But does it deliver? We’ve come away plenty impressed with the Evergreen Pod before (check out our first review here), however, that meant the pressure was on to see if they could improve on a classic. How did version 2 hold up? Read on to find out.

Functionality

It’s a rare and exquisite thing when a simple product works exactly as desired, and that’s what we’ve experienced with Evergreen Pod in the past. Well, it seems they’ve done it yet again. Our reviewers used the pods on two dry eighths that had been sitting in jars without humidity packs for about a month or more. We wouldn’t call it unsmokable, but certainly not appealing. After a few days with the Evergreen Pods, the flower had sprung right back to that good, “firm sponge” quality one looks for in a well-cured bud. For the very dry Colorado climate, it performed just as we’d hoped, and while we weren’t able to test the 5-year lifespan, we’d be hard-pressed to see a way in which the pods wouldn’t perform that long, and maybe even longer.

Evergreen Pod Example

This second run of Evergreen Pods may look familiar, but the devil is in the details. Although the change in the new design may seem subtle, it felt like a great upgrade to an already fantastic product. In our first test with the V1, we let the pod do it’s work for about 2 weeks. With the V2, reviewers saw that time reduced by about third. A change was noticeable in the flower after only a few days, and after 4-5, you would think it came right from a dispensary. The improved screen is to thank for that easier humidity transfer, and it did its job well. Not that the original was any slouch, but there was a noticeable improvement. We already like the original Evergreen Pod, and we like this one even more.

Ease of Use

Directions for using the pod are little more than “add water.” You need to be aware of where to add it and how much, but in the event that you somehow mess up that step, it’s easy to fix. As mentioned, the design is very intuitive, and the little touch of being magnetic is a really useful feature as well. Not only does it keep the pod away from the bud (reducing risk of contaminants), but it’s always easy to find and access. Anyone who has had to dig around in a jar to check if the humidity pack is still good knows that small, but bothersome moment all too well, or worse, when you have to dump out the whole jar just to check. Being on the lid is cleaner and easier, and after you get used to it, you’ll find yourself annoyed with other humidity systems without it. Disposable options just don’t come close.

Beyond the pod itself is the The Evergreen Storage Solution (ESS). It’s full of amazing items, each just as simple and well thought out. The jars are easy to write on and clean off with the included materials, and the sleeve not only blocks excess light and protects the glass, but helps to keep your strains sorted. If your bud is going to be well stored for longer periods of time, it helps to remember just what it is that you’re smoking.

Appearance

The pod’s appearance is rather pleasant and straightforward without seeming overly clinical or immature (the two extremes that the majority of cannabis products seem to fall into). It was refreshing to experience a product that sidesteps that dichotomy altogether, and instead focuses on simplicity and function. The overall feel-good ethos of a reusable and effective product is well reflected in that cheery shade of green that smiles up at you from the jar lid whenever you get out some bud; it was a nice reminder that it’s there and working (and easy to check if it’s not).

As mentioned, the full ESS from Evergreen Pod is also clean and uncomplicated. Beyond the obvious benefits of blocking light, easy color coordination, and convenient labeling, it’s a good feeling to be able to pull out something more “adult” looking whenever having guests over. While stash jars emblazoned with flaming skulls and trippy illustrations are fun and have their place, they tend to shed a rather narrow light on the cannabis experience. These jars aren’t making any statement other than “this person cares about their cannabis.” As consumers ourselves, that’s just the right vibe.

Value

It may not be the last humidity control device you’ll ever purchase, but it might be close to it. For the cost, and how reusable they are, this is some of the best value you can find. If the pods are good for five years (and again, we saw nothing that would make us doubt their durability), at $10 each, you’re looking at $2 per year to keep your bud looking and smelling like perfection. It would be difficult to find almost any cannabis product with that kind of value, much less another humidity control option. Furthermore, the cannabis industry has a problem with plastic and waste overall, so having an effective reusable solution is a godsend in terms of value to the planet.

Evergreen Pod Bundle

If you’re comparing this new pod to the version 1 and wondering if you should upgrade, that’s going to be a personal call. The original is an excellent product that, if you’ve purchased it recently, still has years of good use to go, so we’d hate to advise that you chuck that one out in favor of a replacement. That being said, the new batch really does shine, and at such an affordable price, it’s tough to resist the allure of getting more of a good thing. Regardless, if you’ve used the old ones and are needing more, you’ll be very satisfied with the upgraded design.

Overall

Storage isn’t the most exciting part of cannabis, which is why this aspect of the industry is so often overlooked for more immediate-satisfaction items like a new glass piece or electronic device. However, it’s one of the little quality-of-life changes that can greatly improve your overall cannabis consumption experience. We all love the smell and feel of fresh bud right from the dispensary, but sometimes forget that it is easy to preserve that goodness with minimal investment.

The longevity of the pod means it’s an upgrade you can do, and then not have to worry about for the next half-decade (unlike other humidity solutions that have to be constantly restocked). For us, that’s where the real magic comes in: there’s something so satisfying about knowing that you’ve got a complete, effective, and lasting solution. Multiple reviewers who were given one pod to try immediately wanted more for the rest of their stash because it worked so well, and once you find something that works, you stick with it. Whether you’re looking at buying the total storage solution, or just a few pods, the team found Evergreen Pods to be an easy upgrade to your storage setup that you’ll wonder why you didn’t tackle sooner.
