In 2000, Hawaii legalized medical marijuana, becoming the first state to pass a medical marijuana bill via the legislature. After a long wait, medical marijuana dispensaries are finally open for business.
In 2015, Hawaii created Act 241 to establish a medical marijuana dispensary system, however, that process has come with challenges and delays. Thankfully, medical marijuana dispensaries began opening in 2017 and more are expected to open over time.
