Cannabis was legalized in the Northwest Territories when The Cannabis Act went into effect nationwide across Canada on October 17, 2018. Now, adults 19 years of age or older are legally allowed to purchase, possess, consume and cultivate cannabis within the territories.

To ensure a smooth roll-out for their legal cannabis industry, the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories passed the Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Implementation Act with a strong emphasis on public safety and responsible cannabis practices.
