Mississippi voters approved Initiative Measure 65 (I 65) on November 3, 2020, legalizing medical marijuana in the state. The ballot actually contained two proposed pieces of legislation for medical marijuana simultaneously, I-65, which passed, and Initiative Measure 65A (I-65A), which would have created a more restrictive form of the medical market. Dispensaries are not operational yet.
The Mississippi Department of Health will be overseeing the new medical program. Under I-65, the Department must establish guidelines for the program no later than July 1, 2021, and issue patient IDs and business licenses by August 15, 2021.
