You bought marijuana in Massachusetts, now where do you consume?
The Massachusetts Marijuana Legalization Initiative (Question 4), includes language that allows the creation of cannabis social clubs, similar to what you would find in Amsterdam. Although the law explicitly states “no person shall consume marijuana in a public place or smoke marijuana where smoking tobacco is prohibited”, it also says that this rule “shall not apply to a person who consumes marijuana or marijuana products in a designated area of a marijuana establishment located in a city or town that has voted to allow consumption on the premises where sold”.
In order to open a cannabis social lounge in the future, a business will need the approval of local voters. To us, this sounds like a great system that will result in plenty of options for people to consume marijuana in a safe, social environment. Until then (and because recreational marijuana just recently passed in Massachusetts), we are not aware of any clubs currently operating.
