Massachusetts dissolved more than a century of prohibition by legalizing recreational cannabis in November 2016. Now, the state offers people robust medical and recreational marijuana programs.
In 2008, Massachusetts voted to approve a ballot measure that decriminalized cannabis. Four years later in 2012, voters approved medical marijuana. Thankfully, recreational cannabis for adult use passed legislation on November 8th, 2016 and anyone 21 years and older is now able to purchase, possess and use cannabis -- legally. After some delay, the first recreational cannabis dispensaries opened their doors to adults 21 years of age and older on November 20, 2018.
