Vermont medical cannabis patients can make use of state-regulated dispensaries since the passing of An Act Relating to the Medical use of Marijuana in 2003. The state’s rules have a wide range of accepted conditions, however Vermont does not offer reciprocity to medical cannabis patients from any other states.
While adult use is legal in Vermont, the state has yet to pass legislation that establishes a system for retailing recreational cannabis. There are no recreational dispensaries in Vermont at this time. However, the state hopes to pass legislation for sales and taxation within the 2020 legislative season. Allowing sales for an adult-use market is supported by both the state house and senate, and the two are currently working on combining their legislative efforts into a single offering to present to the Governor.
