Appearance

This cut of Kandy Kush was comprised of dense, dark green, buds that took on the classic OG bud structure of the OG Kush female used in the cross. The sample had bright orange pistils that contrasted the dark green calyxes of the bud, indicating some definitive sativa influence. The sample was well-trimmed – likely hand trimmed considering most of the trichome heads remained undisturbed. All of the resin glands were cloudy, with evidence of a few partially amber heads, meaning the sample was harvested at peak maturity. Trichome coverage was dense and the buds glistened like crystals in the sunlight. Overall, these buds were simply beautiful – a great representation of OG bud structure, the flower produced by healthy plants, and minimally disturbed trichomes. Unfortunately, after grinding up the rock hard bud, I discovered a very mature seed inside, which is a sign of unstable genetics and/or stress encountered during the cultivation process.

Aroma

This cut of Kandy Kush has that classic, pungent OG Kush smell that reeks of Pine Sol and lemons – even before being ground up. The smell is sweet and refreshing with a slight undertone of gas/fuel and earthiness that is consistent with many OG leaning cuts like this one. Upon being ground up, the sweet, earthy smell became even more pronounced. The strain likely got its name from that distinct combination of sweet and OG aromas or ‘Kandy Kush’.

Flavor

My initial impression is that the taste is sweeter than most OG’s very refreshing more pine-sol than lemons. The smell translated well into the taste, which isn’t always the case. The flavor was refreshing like wintergreen but with less mint/menthol flavors – like biting a fresh pine needle. Very noticeable and enjoyable terpene profile overall.

The sample produced all white ash – some of the whitest I have see to date. The smoke was a little harsh, which resulted in an extra cough or two. However, the sample was so dense with trichomes that you could see the melted resin on the paper as the joint burned. The sample produced thick, white smoke that was generally enjoyable despite some irritation.

Effect

The refreshing smell and taste translated into a similarly refreshing and euphoric high. This cut seemed to be a sativa dominant, potent, hybrid strain. Initially, the most noticeable effects are sativa based; that distinct halo/headband sensation, reduced ocular pressure, and increased heart rate. However, the indica effects keep the high balanced and relaxed without the raciness or paranoia induced by heavier leaning sativa strains. This strain is great for increasing focus and diving into your favorite activity.

Overall

Although the appearance, aroma, and taste of the sample indicated it would take on the effects of a heavier OG, it actually induced sativa dominant effects. A great daytime smoke, this cut of Kandy Kush is perfect for managing pain, reducing stress, getting into the ‘zone’. This sample was quite strong, novices should start slow.
