Black Mamba - Coastal Collective (Santa Ana, CA) formerly known as Green Coast Wellness

This sample was definitely dark, with olive greens, dark but muted purple, and sparse orange pistils.  What was really noticeable immediately was how dense the buds were — they were like rocks, barely giving when squeezed and requiring some elbow grease in the grinder.  Despite that, they were nicely dried and seemed to have a quality cure, with quite the collection of milky white trichomes as well as some ambers and clears.  We saw a tiny seed or two, but it was nothing that affected the smoking experience.

This sample had a typical (in the best way) Purple aroma, making the possible GDP lineage seem likely.  It has a perfume-like smell that reminded us of fancy soaps, with just a hint of fruity sweetness.  The aroma was very enjoyable, but required some coaxing to really come out, and was never all that pungent.

The flavor was more sweet and fruity than the aroma was, with a definite grape element.  It wasn’t very pungent beyond the first hit or two, but the smoke was smooth and not harsh on the throat.  There was moderate expansion though, and multiple reviewers reported some coughing at the end of the review portion as the smoke became very thick.  A gray and white ash showed it had received an adequate flush.

This was one of the densest samples we’ve seen in some time, so if you’re a person who appreciates rock-like buds that burn long and evenly, this is one to look into for sure.  The strain seemed like a pretty typical Purple, but with a nice kick of potency that sent it over the edge from the often moderate and uplifting Purples into the more narcotic and sedative ones.  The effects were definitely best for a late-day or early evening session rather than a morning one, as the second half especially had us feeling drowsy and very relaxed.  Great choice for a night at home when relaxation, pain relief, and sleep aid are desired.
