Arkansas passed medical marijuana regulations in 2016, when voters approved issue 6, and passed into law the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment of 2016 (pdf), Medical dispensaries opened in 2019. Patients can obtain medical cannabis from dispensaries, but home cultivation is not allowed.

Cannabis for adult-use (recreational) remains illegal in the state, though there are currently two ballot initiatives attempting to put the matter to a public vote in the November 2020 election. Both proposals would allow for the creation of dispensaries and allow personal cultivation. Currently, Arkansas has some of the nation's strictest cannabis laws.
