The first state to legalize cannabis in the Northeast, Massachusetts dissolved more than a century of prohibition by legalizing recreational cannabis in November of 2016.  The state also has a well established medical program, which was legalized in 2012. 

After some delay, the first recreational cannabis dispensaries opened their doors on November 20, 2018. Anyone 21 years and older is able to purchase, possess and use cannabis in Massachusetts.
