As of October 17, 2018, cannabis is legal in Newfoundland and Labrador for adults 19 years of age and older. Adults of age are legally allowed to purchase, possess and consume cannabis products so long as they follow federal and provincial laws.

In preparation for legalization, provincial lawmakers passed the Control and Sale of Cannabis Act, outlining the framework for Newfoundland and Labrador’s cannabis market. The legislation was put in place to ensure public safety and promote a responsible industry within the province.
