Alabama became the 37th state to legalize medical cannabis through Senate Bill 46, which was signed by Governor Kay Ivey on May 17, 2021. The senate bill outlines rules for the cultivation, sale, and consumption of medicinal marijuana for qualifying patients. Applications for the program are expected to begin in 2022.
