Appearance
Somewhat yellow-looking, in part due to the very abundant amount of amber trichomes that cover its calyxes, the buds were poorly-manicured, but very frosty. The dark green large fan leaves that were left on perhaps helped to preserve the trichs, as they were nearly perfect. Speaking of the trichs, there were an absurd amount of amber trichs on this sample, among the most we’ve seen from a dispensary strain, indicating the grower’s patience. This sample was moderately dense, with an ever-so-slightly spongy feel that kept it from falling apart when squeezed. Aside from the manicure, no flaws to speak of.
Aroma
An extremely pungent sample, this one was strange in that it changed scents quite a bit when handled or ground up. Initially it was a slightly sweet and fruity aroma that filled the jar with a pleasant scent. However as soon as it hit the scissors or was even squeezed, it unleashed an insanely acrid chemical pine stank that reminded one reviewer of walking into a tire shop. This complex and changeable aroma certainly was enjoyed by our review staff, and its pungency will hang in the air and on your fingers for quite a while.
Flavor
The taste was more like the in-jar smell than the grinded one, as it was slightly sweet and fruity (on the citrus side) with a background of hashiness. The smoke was thick and moderately expansive, with an average harshness on the throat that mostly showed up on the initial trich-filled hits. While it wasn’t as pungent as the smell by a long shot, it was an enjoyable and smooth experience.
Effect
(We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Pain relief (primarily muscle tension), possible glaucoma and ocular relief, appetite stimulation, possible sleep aid later in the evenings.
Overall
Hong Kong is such a strange strain, it seems like every example of it is different. This one had an Indica-dominant profile but sported a crazy chem-smelling scent that reminded us of the Sensi Star x Sour Diesel version of this strain. Its strong initial effects that bordered on the trippy subsides and gave way to a more Indica-feeling couchlocky state accompanied by a strong body relaxation and pain relief. A solid choice for most patients, we’d suggest taking it easy at first in case the initial potency is too much – you’ll be rewarded by sticking around though if pain relief is what you’re after. This was a strong initial submission from City Park Dispensary to be sure.
