Appearance

This eye-catching sample was entirely purple in color – literally no green on the bud, only the stems. Bright orange pistils contrasted the dark purple hues of the overall bud. The bud structure was circular and dense, similar to an OG in shape but with less swollen calyxes. This sample was particularly well trimmed with no signs of excess sugar leaves. Trichome density was moderate and many of the heads remained intact. The trichome heads were milky with some of them showing amber – a sign that the sample was harvested on time.

Aroma

The smell was pleasant, but underwhelming overall. Upon being ground up, the bud produced a sweet ‘purple’ aroma that I would liken to Kool-Aid as opposed to grapes or berries. It smells like a sweet fruit punch with underlying earthy, musty tones.

Flavor

The initial flavors were musky and earthy – unexpected given the sweet smell of the sample. The musty notes continued as the joint burned; however, the sweet essence of candy also became more pronounced. The sweetness was not fruity, but rather pure sweetness like straight cane sugar. The second half of the joint provided hints of that refreshing purple Kool-Aid flavor one might expect with a Grand Daddy Purple cross.

Effect

The sativa dominant effects are most pronounced to start with that classic frontal lobe head high and an uplifted mood. This strain will keep you mentally stimulated and focused, while leaving your body fully relaxed. Waves of relief can be felt throughout the head, hips, and legs. The high is very manageable when consuming small doses but can become surprisingly strong upon consuming large amounts. Candyland is great for managing pain, sore muscles, and ADD. It can also be used to treat stress and anxiety.

The sample was relatively smooth and did not result in any excessive throat irritation or coughing. The sample produced predominantly black ash that did not stay lit well. Overall, the smoke was pleasant; it just wasn’t the most enjoyable tasting sample.

Overall

Despite its average smoke, this sample induced a high that was intensely pleasurable and unanticipated – especially for purple strains that have a reputation for low potency. This strain is great for all tolerance levels, just be mindful of consumption quantity. Start with a few hits before finishing the joint or bowl. Candyland is recommended as a daytime strain that can be used in the early morning or late afternoon.
