St. Patrick’s Day is upon us, making it one of the greenest times of the year. So in the spirit of keeping things green and festive, what better way than to include some high-quality cannabis during your celebrations? That’s right, this year we’re encouraging everyone of age to not only wear green but consume some as well!

For those of you who also enjoy an occasional brew or two, today is your lucky day. In the spirit of St. Paddy’s, we’re bringing you the best beer and cannabis pairings out there. Since we’re sure you’re ready to celebrate, we’ll get right into it.

Remember, you can always get higher if needed! Start slow and be sure to take a moment to enjoy the complimentary effects the cannabis and alcohol give off.

Pilsners

Have thrills for the pils? Then look no further. With their refreshingly light and airy composition, pilsners make the perfect addition to a sweet and fruity strain. Rolling up a joint of Lemon Kush or Super Lemon Haze in combination with a nice pilsner will really bring out the crispness of the beer and the fruity notes of the cannabis.

Careful not to overindulge, though. We know pilsners don’t pack much of a punch, but if you plan on trying any more pairings during your St. Patrick’s celebration, you’ll want to pace yourself.

India Pale Ales (IPAs)

Just like Lady Gaga is a celebrity of the pop world, IPAs are celebs of the hop world. Created out of necessity during the British colonization of India, IPAs contain high amounts of hops and a stiff alcohol content when compared to pilsners. With their deep piney flavor and bitter, earthy finish, IPAs make the perfect companion for spicy-sweet strains that have a smooth finish.

What better way to wash down your IPA than with a clean rip of some Girl Scout Cookies. Or perhaps try a sip of some IPA after a joint of Jack Flash. Either way, you’ll be happy you did. IPAs are the perfect beer to combine with cannabis because the bitterness really accentuates the floral notes of the cannabis while the spicy and earthy flavors cleanse the palate.

5 beer and cannabis pairings

Pale Ale

A blend between pilsners and IPAs, pale ales provide a great variety of citrus, pine and lemon accents with a clean, smooth finish. Don’t let the name fool you, pale ales are not exactly pale, however, one too many and you may find yourself slightly pale in the face. Be sure to pace yourself when drinking pale ales. They may go down easily, but they get you inebriated just the same. To even out the alcohol, try some Blue Cheese or Cheesel. The sweet, cheesy flavor accentuates the bitterness of the pale ale and brings out the lighter notes much more prominently. Add some actual cheese into the mix and you’ve got yourself a flavor party!

Porter

The first style of beer to be nationally distributed, porters embody a slightly chocolaty flavor with a roasted, creamy finish. Paired with a sweet and sour strain the experience is even better. Because of their dark complexion and rich, velvety flavors, a strain like Sour Grape is the perfect match. Plus, it’ll guarantee that you aren’t a sour grape yourself at the St. Paddy’s party.

Stout

Stouts were designed to bring out the flavors in food, so of course, they are excellent at bringing out the best flavors in cannabis. Because it’s all about the terps, right? But seriously, stouts are one of the best kinds of beer to pair a strain with, especially on St. Patrick’s Day! With their chocolaty-coffee flavors and nutty, cacao-like finish, stouts are great to pair with creamy, sweet strains that have earthy tones and properties.

A strain like Blue Cream is a solid option before or after enjoying a stout. Additionally, Northern Lights is an excellent choice if you are looking to accentuate those earthy undertones. You really can’t go wrong when pairing cannabis with stout, as it truly is one of the best options to bring out flavors and exquisite terpene profiles.

No matter what your favorite beer or strain is, we're confident that these pairings will help make your St. Patrick's Day filled with fun and excitement. Remember everyone, the key to a good time is being responsible and knowing your limits. Stay safe and enjoy all the green festivities!
