420 Culture

Cannabis has come a long way since smoking from an apple pipe. Advancements in technology and cultivation have paved the way for cannabis to increasingly shake off its stoner image and develop an array of products catering to practically any desire. Cannabis consumers are now being presented with luxurious options at sleek and airy high-end dispensaries or have luxury boxes delivered to the front door. Now, the only thing standing between you and a lavish cannabis experience is how much money you’d like to spend. This 4/20, why not treat yourself to the cannabis celebration of a lifetime?

The Luxury Cannabis Product Market

Miner & Co released a report at the end of 2016 identifying an emerging group of “high-end” cannabis consumers. Based on a survey sent to 800 cannabis users, they found that more than a third of luxury cannabis consumers had income surpassing $75,000 per year. A large majority had full time jobs and were in a relationship. With this in mind, many cannabis companies are looking to target a high-end consumer willing to spend some money on their cannabis experience.

The report also noted that survey respondents were actively seeking out high-quality cannabis products showcasing refined branding and packaging. Take, for example, the Au Box. A luxury cannabis delivery box created by former Miss Iowa Jessica VerSteeg, a year-long subscription costs $1188 a year, with six month, three month, one month subscription and a la carte options. Featuring items for both day and evening use – imagine a carefully selected cannabis-infused coffee for the day and an indica elixir for the evening – Au Box’s offerings are attentively curated and beautifully packaged.

Flower
There are many luxury flower strains and products on the market.

Renowned tattoo artist to the stars Scott Campbell is the co-founder of high-end cannabis company Beboe, named for his grandmother who made marijuana brownies for her daughter, Campbell’s mother, as she battled cancer. Beboe features designer sativa and indica vaporizer pens and edible pastilles, all presented in Beboe’s signature rose gold palette. Launched at a celebrity-laden party in the spring of 2017, Beboe has been nicknamed the Hermès of marijuana, after the French high-fashion luxury goods manufacturer.

Stepping Things Up for 4/20

For a really opulent 4/20 experience, try wrapping your bud in 24-karat gold rolling papers. Inspired by a night in Las Vegas featuring a Black Tie Cigar, the founders of Shine decided that they wanted to put gold on everything. “The sad thing about a gold cigar is that most people can’t afford it,” they wrote on their website. “And it’s a blast to be smoking gold at a party.” They opted to craft rolling papers with edible gold on the outside and a hemp-blend base on the inside, allowing for a slow, gold-tinged burn.

If you’re a fan of edibles you might want to consider sampling some exquisite chocolate to celebrate the ‘high holiday.’ The team behind Defonce Chocolatier views chocolate-making as a higher calling and serious endeavor. Recognizing that people choose cannabis for a variety of reasons, from creativity to pain relief, they prioritize consistency, the level of THC in each serving, and serving quality cannabis. Featuring vanilla, matcha, mint, milk, coffee, hazelnut, and dark chocolate bars, their products are organic and a combination of vegan and gluten-free. Sold through many collectives in California, a bar costs around $20. But be assured, Defonce espouses smart agricultural practices and uses sustainable and responsibly-sourced ingredients. They also donate to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, an organization devoted to helping children with devastating illnesses.

Regardless of whether you want to spend big or small, the luxury cannabis sector features products for every taste. Step it up a notch this 4/20 and treat yourself!
