How to Make Cannabis-Infused Butter & Oil 420 Culture

Introducing a new series on the PotGuide.com: Cooking recipes from the team at The MOTA POT. We'll be highlighting new and delicious recipes frequently, so stay tuned for a lot more to come.

“For years, the art of extracting cannabinoids from cannabis into an edible form was extremely taxing. The initial investment of herb was enough to limit the creation of edibles to a select few, and those that could afford it had to endure the rigors of making edible oil. Hours in the crockpot, and several burned fingers later, it was still unknown if the method worked this time or not.

BLD (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Book

In 2013, Extracting Innovations, LLC in Denver Colorado found a great new piece of technology, The MOTA POT, which allows for a more user-friendly way to make infused oils. BLD (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) is a book designed around the premise of ease that this new device allows, and brings the edibles industry into your home. Although you can use the old methods for making your oils, we found that this is the best method for consistent and economical edibles.

We’ll start with methods on how to use The MOTA POT to infuse several types of oils for use in the recipes that follow in the book. Butter, olive oil, coconut oil, heavy cream, and even bacon fat will be used to make the delicacies that will be shared on PotGuide.com.”

Before making your edibles oils, all herbs must be “toasted” in the oven to maximize the potential for active ingredient. Place the herb on a cookie sheet and into n a 215°F for 15 minutes. Turn up the stove to 240°F and let them toast for 45 more minutes. Remove from oven and let cool before grinding them up to create as much surface area as possible.

When using 1 stick of butter (113g) and 4 grams of herbs, the extraction rate has been analytically shown to result in ~70%. For example: 4g at 18% active ingredient will result in the oil containing 500mg of total active ingredient. These can be adjusted to accommodate for portion size, potency, or # of servings.
