As of January 2019, ten states have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Over twenty states have broadly legalized cannabis for medical use, while other cannabis products, such as CBD, are already legal in many forms. In 2020, New York State is expected to change its medical marijuana laws and its overall approach to cannabis, including legalization for “recreational” use. This change will open many opportunities in a rapidly growing global industry, but knowledge about the legislative process, cannabis science, economic systems, are helpful in creating an industry that works for everyone.
