PLEASE REGISTER ON OUR OTHER EVENTBRITE PAGE... BEING BLACK IN THE MARIJUANA INDUSTRY
At this discussion, we will talk about what it means to be "Black and starting a Business in the Legal Cannabis Industry". Black people have been almost completely shut out of the Green Rush—but not for much longer. Breaking into this emerging market hasn’t proven easy for many black entrepreneurs, who often face financial and racial challenges that their white counterparts don’t. But despite the roadblocks, black cannabis entrepreneurs still have a shot in the industry.
November 6, 2018, Michigan received the people of Detroit's vote to legalize marijuana. On December 6, 2018 Michigan officially became the 10th state to legalize recreational marijuana.
This isn’t a victory lap.
This is a misstep, in particular: Michigan joins the list of those states that have also failed to ensure that minority communities would share in any economic windfall of legalization — missing out on an opportunity to redress years of having a disproportionate number of African-Americans arrested on marijuana charges and an attempt to address the racial inequality fostered under current drug laws.
We discuss all of this and more with Melek Dexter founder of crowdsourced cannabis investing company, ReUP.
ReUP is committed to changing the future of canna- businesses and how it shows up in our communities. No longer just consumers....WE ARE OWNERS!!!! Call 313-279-7533 for more information and/ or text Reup313 to 77948 for text messaging updates/ reminders. Please REGISTER to stay connected.
