North Central Florida's placement can be confusing for those unfamiliar with the regional layout, as it is on the west side of the state. However, those that can understand the unique geography of Florida will find countrysides unlike any other in the sunshine state.
The region is known as Florida’s horse country, as it contains Ocala, one of only five cities permitted under Chamber of Commerce guidelines to use the title, "Horse Capital of the World." Much like other northern Florida regions, North Central Florida takes on some more traditional southern culture and styles, borrowing from Georgia to the north. The region’s largest city is Gainesville, home to the University of Florida, the nation’s 5th largest university campus.
