Bennington, Vermont is known most widely for the Bennington Battle Monument, commemorating the historic Battle of Bennington. The altercation is considered a turning point of the Revolutionary War. Subsequently, August 16 is a legal holiday in Vermont, known as Bennington Battle Day. The battle of Bennington actually took place 10 miles from the monument, technically in the state of New York.
