Lawton is known for its many festivals, museums and parks. The Arts for All and International festivals draw yearly attendance, and Lawton’s Prince of Peace passion play is one of the longest running Easter celebrations in the country. The town’s passion play is so famous that it has spawned a film and a documentary about the tradition. Lawton is also home to the Museum of the Great Plains, the Comanche National Museum, and the Fort Sill Museum (also a historic landmark). Students of Cameron University can visit the city’s 80 parks and recreation areas, or check out the area’s three major lakes Lake Lawtonka, Lake Ellsworth, and Elmer Thomas Lake for water-side fun and sun. Visit a medical dispensary in Lawton, Oklahoma to purchase some marijuana and go get festive.
