Medical marijuana has been legal in Colorado since November, 2000. Patients with valid Medical Marijuana Registry Cards are able to purchase cannabis from licensed dispensaries. Recently, Colorado simplified the process for patients to obtain a MMJ card, now allowing online applications. Registering online takes minutes and is a quick way to getting your card.

Restrictions:

To be qualified for a medical marijuana card, patients must be at least 18 years of age or older, Colorado residents and have a qualifying medical condition. Applicants that are under the age of 18 are allowed access to medical marijuana as long they are Colorado residents, have parental/guardian consent and have had two separate physicians conclude that the minor has a debilitating condition. The physicians must also explain the possible risks and benefits of medical cannabis to their parents.

Qualifying Health Conditions:

Colorado has several conditions that qualify a resident to apply for a medical marijuana card. Qualifying health conditions include:

  • Cancer

  • HIV/AIDS

  • Glaucoma

  • Cachexia

  • Muscle Spasms

  • Severe Pain

  • Seizures

  • Severe Nausea

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Applying to become a medical marijuana patient in Colorado:

Qualifying patients who wish to obtain a medical marijuana card in Colorado must follow the State's processes. Recently, Colorado introduced an online application feature to streamline the process, making it a bit more convenient for patients to get their medical marijuana cards.

Create Account & Enter Info:

Before you visit a physician, you must create a login on the medical marijuana registry page. Simply create an account on the state’s webpage, fill out the information and you’ll be ready to go!

Find a doctor:

After setting up your online account, you must meet with a physician in good standing with the state. Physicians must be MDs or DOs and provide a recommendation stating that the patient is qualified to receive medical marijuana.

Once you have received your recommendation, your physician must submit the proper certifications online via your account. If you do not have an account online, you will have to mail in your certification.

Complete application:

When you have received your physician recommendation, you are ready to complete the online application process. This process is very simple. Follow the instructions and you will be all set.

Get your medical marijuana card in Colorado:

If your application is approved, you’ll be able to print off your medical marijuana card for use at your favorite dispensary.

Reciprocity in Colorado:

Unfortunately, Colorado does not offer medical marijuana reciprocity. Only qualifying patients or caregivers with valid medical marijuana cards are able to purchase and consume medical cannabis in the state of Colorado.
