420 Guide to Massachusetts

The biggest cannabis holiday of the year is here once again and Massachusetts is one of the hottest scenes to celebrate 4/20 in 2022. There are tons of cannabis-related activities and celebrations happening in the Bay State, so get involved this year and be a part of the festivities with a little help from our guide. Below, you'll find everything you need for a 4/20 full of cannabis-filled fun, ranging from where to buy, where to stay and what to do. Happy celebrating!

Remember, there are still rules and regulations surrounding cannabis consumption even though 4/20 is widely considered marijuana's biggest holiday. Always be sure to know the laws that govern the areas you're in, and be mindful about being too up front about your cannabis consumption. Just as law enforcement targets alcohol consumers on big drinking days (St. Patrick's, New Year's, etc.), the same goes for cannabis consumers on 4/20. Of course, law enforcement's main goal isn't to write tickets, but don't think they won't take the time to write you up if you're not following the rules. Where to Eat

It’s common to feel a bit peckish after enjoying some choice buds. When looking to manage your munchies in Massachusetts, check out these places for delicious treats:

The Butcher Shop

Butcher Shop

Inspired by Chef Barbara Lynch’s travels throughout France and Italy, The Butcher Shop is the perfect place for a glass of wine and a small bite, or lingering over a meal. The menu highlights meat and produce from local farms and vendors with whom she's built decades-long relationships with. There’s a touch of bespoke quality to everything in the shop. The showpiece of the The Butcher Shop is the butcher block, which hosts a selection of cheese, house antipasti and freshly-baked loaves of bread. Sounds simple, but the execution is divine.

Antonio’s Pizza

Antonio's

A staple in the Amherst community, Antonio’s is the late night spot to stop. They offer a wide variety of specialty slices with so many options that the selection can often be daunting. While it may be busy on a Saturday night, locals report it’s worth the wait, and with so much to choose from, you’ll be able to find something for everyone.

Legal Seafood

Legal Seafood

When in Boston, one must seek "chowdah," and the locals say to go to "Legal." Legal Sea Foods was born in 1950 when George Berkowitz opened a fish market in the Inman Square neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has been a staple of the community for more than six decades. Synonymous with quality and authenticity, the chain operates its own fish-processing plant and quality-control lab to ensure that tradition lives on.

Atkins Farms Country Market

Atkins Farms

If you’re looking to take in the lush countryside of Western Massachusetts, look no further than Atkins Farms to fuel up for the day. Thousands flock to get a taste of the apple cider donuts, but there are many tasty treats to choose from. Pies, pastries, jams, anything your munchies might require!

PJ's Family Restaurant Inc.

PJ's Family Restaurant

A lobster roll might be cliché, but if you’re going to get one, do it right. People don’t come to PJ’s Family Restaurant for the scenery: a view of a parking lot and two lanes of Route 6 traffic. No, they come for the food. A plethora of local seafood options are available, but the star of the show is the roll. If you want the full Massachusetts experience, there’s no substitute. Head on down to PJ’s and eat like a true native.

Honeycomb Creamery

Honeycomb Creamery

When the sweet tooth really hits, it’s time to get serious and head to Honeycomb Creamery. This small batch, locally sourced ice cream is made from scratch and features classic flavors alongside innovative creations like bay leaf and lemon curd, or gin and tonic sorbet. Honeycomb is literally a mom n’ pop shop, and offers such fun fare as homemade choco-tacos. For the perfect post-4/20 treat, Honeycomb can’t be beat.

Nightlife

Like most states with large metropolitan areas, the nightlife in Massachusetts is quite upbeat and full of energy. There are many great places to experience the Bay State's undulating nightlife scene, check out a few PotGuide favorites below.

The Middle East Restaurant

Middle East

Yes it’s a restaurant, and yes, it’s also a killer music venue. It’s actually three music venues and two restaurants, if you want to get technical. The Middle East hosts all kinds of acts from garage rock to far out 8-bit, and you can grab a bite to eat as well. If this place doesn’t have something to offer you, you just might be hard to please.

Bleacher Bar

Bleacher Bar

It may be a popular tourist trap, but it’s one of the coolest popular tourist traps available if you’re a sports fan. Bleacher Bar is literally located under the bleachers at Fenway, with a view of home plate. It’s almost always packed around game nights, but if you don’t mind the shortage of space, there’s no shortage of comradery. Bleacher Bar may not be the ideal place to put down all of the night’s rounds, but a memorable stop for anyone who can appreciate a day at the ballpark.

Bukowski Tavern

Bukowski's

Offering a wide beer selection, this dive is popular with the college set, but never so hip as to feel unwelcoming. Named for famous rancorous beat poet Charles Bukowski, Bukowski Tavern is the perfect place to grab a bite and a few brews with friends and feel moved by the poetic spirit. The bartenders might not be the friendliest, but that’s part of the charm.

The Crow’s Nest

Crow's Nest

Known as “the bar from The Perfect Storm,” the Crow’s Nest is the perfect place to head to feel a bit of nostalgia. From the book, “The plate-glass window in front is said to be the biggest barroom window in town.” When you're grim about the mouth and looking to knock off top hats, stop in the Crow’s Nest for a drink.

Bijou Nightclub

Bijou

The Boston Bijou Theater opened on Washington Street in 1882 as the first American playhouse lit entirely by electricity. The electrical system was installed and supervised personally by Thomas Edison. Flash forward 129 years and Bijou Nightclub still brings the electricity. Check it out if you're looking to up the energy after a long day of consuming!
