Sonora is the county seat of Tuolumne County, California, and the only incorporated community in Tuolumne County. It is a known as “queen of the mines,” in homage to the miners who established the town amidst the California Gold Rush. Though rife with modern offerings, Sonora continues to honor the city’s prospecting roots, preserved in the Tuolumne County Museum & History Center. Sonora is close to Yosemite National Park. In addition, a number of wilderness trails run in and around the city, such as Dragoon Gulch, which hosts a yearly 5 and 10k run.
