Movies and cannabis go together like peanut butter and jelly. A quality strain is going to enhance your viewing experience. They amplify the emotions and feelings of the film and even the adverse effects can become a positive under the ideal circumstance or genre.

Before you fire up your Netflix or step out to the theaters, scoop up a complementary cannabis strain to go along for the ride. These strains are a few of the best to pair with some of smokers’ favorite genres.

Best Strains for Comedy

It’s pretty safe to assume that if you’ve ever consumed marijuana before, then you’ve likely seen a comedy movie sometime too. From Cheech and Chong to Half Baked to anything with Seth Rogen in it and anything that makes you crack up. Really, though, you can put just about any movie you want in here. If cannabis makes you laugh, you could watch paint and bust a gut.

Double Diesel Strain
Double Diesel will help keep the laughs flowing!

The ideal strain for a comedy is going to have you happy, uplifted and focused. Double Diesel might be the best possible strain. Most people feel a mix of high happiness and focus - a perfect blend for watching Chris Farley earn chicken wings. Blue Diesel ranks right up there as well. Maui is another worthy contender. Heads up, it may have you talking and giggling too much to watch the movie!

Best Strains for Horror

Horror isn’t a genre that’s for everyone, cannabis enthusiast or not, and that’s alright. An excellent horror film is going to have your heart pounding, palms sweaty and maybe even vomiting mom’s spaghetti. Sometimes, though, they’re heinous for poor acting and storylines. That’s ok, horror fans understand this, and even seek them out from time to time.

To enhance your horror movie experience, use a strain that will have your heart filled with a bit more anxiety without driving you overboard.

If you’re a major horror fan, you may want to throw in a little paranoia as well. In that case, get your hands on strains like Cindy 99 or White Widow. GG4 is another reliable option to keep you glued to the edge of your seat!

Best Strains for Action and Excitement

These two genres get hearts racing and that’s the way their fans like it. Nothing enhances a smoke session like throwing on John Wick, The Avengers, Seven or Rear Window. You could also throw on some classic kung fu, war or any of the Fast and the Furious movies – which now is only two sequels behind the Now That’s What I Call Music series for the record!

Maui Wowie Strain
Want to stay in the thrill of the moment? Sparking up some Maui Wowie during your movie will help.

The best strains for these occasions call for a healthy dose of happiness and energy. A strain like Blue Dream will have you feeling happy with a splash of anxiety for those heart-pounding climaxes. For a likely increased experience, consider Maui Wowie or Sour Diesel. Both give you happiness with high levels of energy to keep you locked in on your next Wonder Woman or Black Panther viewing. Heads up, all three strains can leave you with a terrible case of dry eyes and mouth. Have your drinks and drops ready.

Best Strains for Documentaries and Foreign Films

Some people like to smoke to better hone in on their movie. If your Netflix queue is full of documentaries or you want to watch Pan’s Labyrinth, get your hands on strains that will keep you filled with strong doses of energy.

Green Crack Strain
Green Crack will help you keep laser focus during the whole movie.

The ideal strain will also give you the ability to focus in on the minute details about Cropsey or catch every word on the bottom of the screen. Two strains to do the trick are Green Crack and Durban Poison. The two both give you a solid chance of zeroing in on your films.

Cannabis Goes Well with Other Genres and Strains Too

Of course, there are loads of alternative genres and strains for you to pair with. Mind-bending, trippy films work excellently with highly psychoactive strains like Super Silver Haze and Headband. Meanwhile, Skunk #1 and Super Lemon Haze are perfect for providing energy while feeling high levels of relaxation that work well for romantic films. So, whether you want a proper cry, or to let something else out, you better believe there's a strain for it.

Just about any film can be paired with a strain that should enhance its experience. Do your research into your favorite flowers and see how they work with your favorite films. Then, if they don’t line up, mix up one or the other to see the outcome. Worst comes to worst, you fall asleep and have to re-watch the film. To be safe, maybe conduct your trial and error at home instead of blowing your cash at the movies. Happy viewing!
